Free-range chickens in step with the times
Knud lives on his father's farm, Buhlseje, and has two other farms where he also raises chickens. At Buhlseje, Knud lives with his wife and their five children, as well as their dachshund Gustav. Knud is very proud of his work with farm chickens and free-range chickens - a joy he shares with the rest of the family. It's hardly a coincidence that he has fallen in love with chickens. As a child, he helped build chicken houses and helped out in his father's chicken farm.
The whole family's passion
Knud's mother, Linda, has her own house on the family farm. She is happy to help and shares her son's passion for free-range chickens. Knud's younger brother Anders is a contractor and Knud's employee. Among other things, he is responsible for creating the optimal conditions for the chickens when they move indoors. He ensures that the houses have the right amount of light, that the bedding is always dry and that the temperature is comfortable. The two brothers make a really strong team. "We have made the best of the best on this farm. We have built a farm that ensures the best animal welfare for our farm chickens and free-range chickens."
Local farm - international knowledge
A few years ago, Knud decided to change his production from conventional chickens to free-range chickens. This required a lot of new knowledge, which he gathered in Norway, Sweden and the Netherlands. He wanted to ensure that his chickens had a life beyond the ordinary. In addition to perfect indoor conditions, they also needed access to an outdoor area with acres and acres of rolling trees and green bushes beyond any chicken's wildest imagination.
Morten Korch for chickens
If Morten Korch were still alive, he would undoubtedly use Knud's farm as a movie set. Denmark rarely looks more idyllic. And every morning when the sun rises, the many free-range chickens take over Buhlseje's vast scenic expanses. As Knud himself says: "The conditions for my chickens are like an old-fashioned chicken coop - but on a large scale. The chickens go out when they want to, and here they scratch everything they find interesting. They dustbathe in sand, sit on perches - or relax in the shade under a poplar tree."
