Tighter legislation and trends towards a circular economy for packaging affect Scandi Standard, which is why we have developed a group-wide packaging strategy. The priority of the strategy is to ensure product quality and shelf life, reduce food waste and ensure food safety. Then the focus is to reduce the amount of packaging and focus on recyclability.
The packaging strategy is in line with EU legislation and Scandi Standard's sustainability strategy. For Scandi Standard, sustainable development is about promoting responsible value creation over time for consumers, customers, owners and other stakeholders. We are determined to uphold our vision "Better Chicken for a Better Life" in every way possible. An important part of this is taking a sustainable approach to our packaging solutions.
Packaging plays a crucial role in ensuring food safety and avoiding food waste. But packaging also creates environmental and climate-related challenges, and the amount of packaging, especially plastic, is a daily concern. That's why we have set ambitious but necessary goals for our future packaging.
Reduce - Recycle - Renew
Reduce the amount of plastic in production and consumer packaging by 20 percent by 2030.
We want to reduce packaging waste and are continuously working to eliminate or minimize primary, secondary and tertiary packaging. Replacing trays with bags for selected products is one way to reduce the amount of plastic.
100% of consumer packaging materials are recyclable by 2030.
Already today, the packaging for many of our products can be recycled. For example, the packaging for all our frozen products is made from mono-LDPE, which means that only one type of plastic is used and all our boxes can be recycled as paper.
We want to use recyclable materials across all categories and we want to ensure that our packaging is easy to recycle - both for our consumers and in public waste systems. Therefore, the material of the packaging will be indicated on all our branded products by 2025 to make them easier to recycle correctly.
50% of all consumer packaging material should be made from post-consumer recycled or fossil-free materials by 2030.
We want to use post- and pre-consumer waste in our packaging to reduce our carbon footprint and reduce the use of virgin raw materials. For example, over 50% of our trays are already made from rPET, which means they are made from recycled material and can be reused again and again.
Food safety
We will never compromise on food safety and shelf life when choosing packaging materials. This, along with minimizing food waste, is our top priority for our packaging solutions.
The climate
Scandi Standard recognizes the importance of reducing its climate impact and we work with this in every step of the value chain, including related to packaging.
Supplier involvement
To achieve our goals, we need to work closely with our suppliers. Together we will create more sustainable and circular packaging solutions.
