Slower growing chicken breed - Raised, slaughtered and produced in Denmark - Raised without antibiotics* - Longer lifespan - More space - Swings and activity material.
We are proud to present Sødam, which The Happy Chicken Project changed its name to on March 1st.
Sødam will carry the same great chicken products with the same great taste - now with even better animal welfare. We are increasing animal welfare from 1 to 2 animal welfare hearts.
Our vision is the same: We want to promote the position of Danish welfare chicken in foodservice.
With the Danish name Sødam, we return strongly to our Danish roots and put extra focus on Danish quality and ensure that our Danish values shine through even stronger than before.
Our Danish chickens from Sødam are slower growing breeds that live a life of good animal welfare.
Our welfare chickens live a calm and comfortable life. They grow up in clean and familiar surroundings. The chickens have free access to nutritious feed and clean water around the clock, so they choose when they eat and drink.
Inside the barn, there are toys to keep them entertained. This way we ensure that we have happy chickens. The chickens are a slow-growing breed and are raised without the use of antibiotics. They grow at their natural pace, which increases the chickens' quality of life and makes them stronger and healthier.
The animal welfare label comes in three levels - the more hearts filled in, the better the animal welfare. At Danpo, we have 1-, 2-, and 3-heart welfare chickens. Our Danish welfare chicken from Sødam, for example, has 2 hearts. We recommend going for the state-controlled animal welfare label when buying chicken.
Once upon a time, there was a farm called Sødam, located in beautiful Southern Jutland. On the farm lived a dedicated farmer who since 2004 had taken pride in raising Danish welfare chickens. Several times a day, he watered his chickens, who were free to roam under the open sky, get air under their wings and peck at the ground. He had created a wonderful chicken life with the utmost care for the animals and their surroundings.
Our products are only sold through our dedicated partners - so visit one of our partners and buy their products with Danish welfare chicken from Sødam.

Why are you changing your name from Happy Chicken to Sødam?
With the Danish name Sødam, we return strongly to our Danish roots and put extra focus on Danish quality and ensure that the Danish values shine even stronger than before.
Our vision is still the same: We want to promote the position of Danish welfare chicken in foodservice.
Will the Sødam products get new product numbers when the name changes from Happy Chicken to Sødam?
The existing Happy Chicken product number will remain the same as before when we switch to 2-heart products from Sødam.
Is the quality of the Sødam products the same as the Happy Chicken products?
Yes, the products are exactly the same. Now with even better animal welfare, as we switch from 1-2 heart. This means that the chickens get even more space in the house.
Why are some products available in Happy Chicken packaging while others are in Sødam packaging?
There may therefore be a transition period after March 1, 2025 where you may experience receiving the product in Happy Chicken packaging until the switch is complete. For climate reasons, we want to use up our stock of foil before we put the product in new packaging.
*Danish welfare chickens from Sødam are not treated with prescription antibiotics. A feed additive (coccidiostats) is used to avoid intestinal problems in the chicken caused by parasites.
